The benefits of UV as an alternative to thermal technology in the dairy industry

Here at Alpha- Purify, we encourage the use of ultraviolet (UV) light applications in the food industry as an alternative to thermal technology.

Thermal technology uses hot water as the disinfection agent compared to UV technology, which uses ultraviolet light to disinfect the required area. UV light can be used to disinfect air, water, food contact surfaces and packaging materials and is becoming an increasingly popular option, especially in dairy processing.

Our aim is to supply companies with suitable UV systems or UV lamps for their existing manufacturing processes which will help them to produce high quality, safe dairy products. This includes improving food safety, whilst at the same time enabling dairy producers to provide consumers with microbiologically safe and fresh products with few effects on the nutritional properties of the products.

Another great reason that UV technology is a popular alternative to thermal disinfection technology is the overall cost of use. When used in dairy production, UV has low maintenance costs, installation costs and operational costs due to its lower energy use.

There can be variables in the disinfection process including the volume of the area that requires disinfection and the power of the UV lamp so it is important to consider these when planning the dose for your UV treatment.

Our experts at Alpha-Purify can talk to you about the power of the lamps we supply. The dairy industry can be positively impacted by using UV lamps in various systems creating safe environments free from pathogens and bacteria, as well as being able to effectively control unwanted odours in the air.
